I have now had three separate appointments made for me to visit the audiology department at our local NHS hospital (spit and spit again). Each one has been cancelled the day before the appointment. I received a "fourth time lucky" appointment for today, and duly drove the 8 or so miles to said hospital and arrived 10 mins before my appointment was due. After waiting 40 minutes, someone came out of the office and said "there's no one in the department yet". I asked them, very politely, to find out when someone WOULD be in the department, as my time was as valuable as theirs. After a few phone calls, they returned to say "2.30 this afternoon"! Needless to say, I left after expressing my annoyance. Guess what was waiting for me when I got home? A letter, from said department, dated yesterday and sent out by second class post cancelling today's appointment. How about that for a total b**** up! I've told them to stick it where the sun don't shine and will go privately to someone else.

Sorry to hear that Jean :(
i hope a very strongly worded emotional letter to PALS is being drafted .. mind you i would never use my PALS service at the local hospital here as they are extremely ineffective ..I'd use the PCT's complaint system which bypasses PALS .. But have heard on here that other Patient Liaison Services are very good :)

Oh Jean, what a bloomin' pain in the proverbial that is. Do they think we have nothing better to do with our time than be messed about by cancelled appointments? How frustrating for you having made the effort to get there on the day they specified in good time for your appointment. Noggins!!!

Hi Jean,

Nothing to say I'm afraid that would be printable!

You should not have to go private but it will save a lot of hassle!

Love, Doreen xx

Oh no what a waste of time and effort Jean. I went to one of those departments in a 'portacabin thingy' about my tinnitus and was seen fairly quickly i wondered if there was one of those near you. You shouldn't have to pay for these things. The 'portacabin thingy' was in Levenshulme in the Gala bingo car park!! if that's any use to you.

ps i think the proper name is greater manchester care and treatment service or CATS.

Oh, what a wasted day you had Jean! It`s a crying shame that you have to go private, but it beats fruitless trips to non-existent appointments.
